If you like to play around with numbers you'll appreciate these online tools. Enjoy!
Want to know how you would fare under tax law changes that have been proposed? Check out this Tax Calculator from the Tax Policy Center from the Brookings Institute. You can play around with sample taxpayers, or create your own scenario, and compare your tax under current law with Bush tax cuts extended vs tax cuts expired, and a proposed tax law compromise. You can also turn the AMT patch on and off.
ToolsforMoney.com has a great 27 sheet Excel workbook with all kinds of useful Time Value of Money calculations- from the basic loan calculators to renting vs buying a home to the cost of raising a child (try that one at your own risk). There's even a "Family Ruining Monster" calculator that calculates the cost of bad behavior like smoking and your daily coffee. The best part is the Social Security calculators to help you decide when to start collecting. The workbook is a bargain at $15.
This one is really eye opening. On the Global Rich List, you can plug in your income and see where you fall percentage-wise with the rest of the world. You might be surprised at how close you are to Bill Gates.
According to the site, "Three billion people live on less than $2 per day while 1.3 billion get by on less than $1 per day. Seventy percent of those living on less than $1 per day are women." Read more on the site to see how you can help.
